Today was another companion way hatch day. The hatch construction is now complete. I put a rush coat of varnish over the epoxy fill that was not completely dry just to get a sealer coat on the wood. Hopefully tomorrow I can do the install.

Today I built the deck toe and the cabin drip molding. Once they were fit I put the first coat varnish on all brightwork. This is the first of appox. 5-7 coats. At the end of this day, I have logged in 305.5 single, man-hours. Eider is basically built. It’s punch list time. For example, the companion way hatch, the cabin deck rails, the rudder, the cockpit benches, the wiring harness and the mast and boom along with installing the hardware. All of these are relatively simple and fun. By the end of this month, Eider won’t be ready to sail but could easily be launched.

Today I taped and masked off all surfaces but the decks. Then I cleaned the decks by wiping them lightly with a damp cloth. I then mixed the 3 part texture, the base, the hardener and about 10% white automotive paint. Hooked the gun up to my compressor and proceeded to shoot the texture on. Once I started shooting it took about 15 minutes to complete the job.

Tomorrow I will paint.
