20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – In-Wales

Posted on November 7, 2014November 7, 2014 by coffeeadmin

You’re probably wondering what’s on the wood stove? My close friends Henry and Craig shot two elk. I run the hooves thru the bandsaw and boil them in saltwater. They make wonderful chews for my 4 legged supervisor “Josey”. Today I skinned the forward bulkhead and fit, glued and fastened the in-wales.

20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – Sealing Interior

Posted on November 6, 2014 by coffeeadmin

Today I sealed the interior of the dory completely with thinned epoxy. I simply mix the epoxy and then add acetone. This allows you to paint it on easily and the bare wood sucks it right up. Applying it this way also cuts way down on drips. It is then easy to sand and then two part truckbed liner…

Posted on October 26, 2014October 29, 2014 by coffeeadmin

20′ Banks Fishing Dory, USCG – Bevel On Out-Wale

Posted on October 22, 2014 by coffeeadmin

Yesterday I coated the bottom, floors and frames up to the first stake with epoxy. Today I calculated the bevel on the top edge of the out wale then raised it to the top of each frame-rib by using this simple tool made of a piece of hardwood. Then clamped, pre-drilled, dis assembled then glued…

Posted on May 9, 2014 by coffeeadmin

Hey, hey, we got some good news. The young pair of Osprey returned to our backyard nesting platform. They got here about 2 weeks late but what can I say they’re a young couple!! I put in a little time in on the dory today. I cut off all the squeeze out of hardened glue. Then cut the…

Posted on April 4, 2014April 4, 2014 by coffeeadmin

Today a few friends came by the shop at noon to help me right the dory. After we put her back in the shop we pulled a tape to find her real LOA, and she measures out at 19’10 1/2″.  Now comes designing the interior. I plan to build a special motor well that won’t…
