Harry Bryan’s Ladybug Wheelbarrow Boat – Scribing and Planing

Posted on January 15, 2016 by coffeeadmin

Friday. Today I put in 3.5 hours scribing and planing the chine planks. Then mixed epoxy with wood flour and filled holes. The last hour I laid out and cut the sheer planks. We will wait for the the filler to dry, then tomorrow I’ll fit the sheer planks.

Harry Bryan’s Ladybug Wheelbarrow Boat – Chine Planks

Posted on January 14, 2016 by coffeeadmin

Thursday. Today I spent the morning spinning a couple of rolling pins! One out of Puget Island Ash and the other out of a seasoned branch of vine maple. For two hours this afternoon I fit the chine planks to the transoms. I cut them flush with the transoms by using a boat carpenter’s pull saw. As you can see…

Harry Bryan’s Ladybug Wheelbarrow Boat – First Plank

Posted on January 13, 2016January 14, 2016 by coffeeadmin

Wednesday morning at 8am I started the project of installing the wood stove in the shop under or on the ground level of the vacation rental. I completed the installation and painted the 50 year old Jotul wood stove at noon. Then I had a little lunch. After lunch I laid out the first plank on the wheelbarrow boat….

Harry Bryan’s Ladybug Wheelbarrow Boat – Widening Boards

Posted on January 9, 2016January 11, 2016 by coffeeadmin

Saturday. This morning I spent 3 hours planing four 1″x8″x10′ boards to 9/16″ thickness. Then I had to laminate some 9/16″X1″ strips to widen the boards in the appropriate places, so when I lay out the planks the wood will be there. This save me from planing a 1″x10″ board and waiting a bunch of material.

Harry Bryan’s Ladybug Wheelbarrow Boat – Transoms

Posted on January 8, 2016January 11, 2016 by coffeeadmin

Today I laid out the bow transom then cut out both bow and stern transoms and mounted them to the mold. I then took a batten to determine the plank angles that meet each corner of the transoms. I cut those angles with a pull saw and then added clamps with matching angles and mounted them to the transoms….

Harry Bryan’s Ladybug Wheelbarrow Boat

Posted on January 7, 2016January 11, 2016 by coffeeadmin

Today I started Harry Bryan’s famous Ladybug Boat. This will be number 5 of these boats that I’ve built. This boat is being built for Wally Wright, a local guy here in Cathlamet, Wa. Wally talked me in to donating my time and materials so he could give it to one of his favorite non-profits….

Abi Gale at Wahkiakum County Fair

Posted on August 17, 2013August 19, 2013 by coffeeadmin

In the big county of Wahkiakum (population 3,000 and not a single traffic light), they have the annual (as the locals call it) the Wahkiakum County Worlds Fair. The fair is truly old timey!! Lots of 4H competitions, baked and canned goods and crafts. Huge Fresh grilled BBQ salmon lunches for 5 bucks and don’t…

Abi-Gale: A True Rudder

Posted on October 21, 2012October 22, 2012 by coffeeadmin

Last year I built a small 3 strake pram for my grand daughter Abigail. I did a little multi-using by using an oar to make up part of the mast assembly for a gaff rig cat. I also used the other oar for the rudder. The mast worked out but the oar for rudder did…

Shop Doors

Posted on October 10, 2012 by coffeeadmin

The last couple of days I built my old friend Jerry Johnson a set of large shop doors (6’x11’6″each) replacing a 10’x8′ overhead door so he can remove the 26′ fishboat he’s just about to finish from his shop. I also sanded and added a coat of Cetol to “KyleeLilly’s” interior. Two more coats to…

KyleeLilly Touch Up

Posted on October 6, 2012October 8, 2012 by coffeeadmin

Over the last few days I have done a complete sanding to my granddaughters, Kylee and Lillian’s Ladybug wheelbarrow boat designed by Harry Bryan. I put 4 coats of Cetol to “KyleeLilly’s” brightwork and a fresh coat of Easypoxy to her topside. Once dry I plan to work on her interior.
